There Is A Need For You
Following are the major activities and organizations currently alive in Calvary, each with a strong element of lay ministry.
Acolyte Guild
The young men and women who are members of this guild assist the clergy in church services.
Alcoholics Anonymous
(and other 12 step groups)
Calvary offers its building and facilities to the local chapter, and a number of meetings are held weekly.
Bible Study
Regular Bible Study classes are a tradition at Calvary, with at least one class going most of the time.
Choir
In addition to the Senior Choir, the Youth Choir sings at special services and occasionally on Sunday. Both Choirs welcome new voices.
Church School
Opportunities for volunteer teachers are available for classes of all ages from nursery through adults.
Community Kitchen
Founded at Calvary in 1983, Community Kitchen provides lunch five days a week to those in need, using Calvary's kitchen and parish hall. Now a project of the Ashland Ministerial Association, the kitchen serves more than 130 meals daily.
Cursillo and Youth Happening
These diocesan educational and renewal programs teach worship, study, action and small accountability as keys to sustaining oneself in the journey of life and grace.
Edith Wade Sewing Guild
Guild members repair vestments, make quilts and engage in other special sewing projects, including many outreach programs to children.
Episcopal Church Men
Members sponsor the parish's annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and parish's Picnic, and support other parish and diocesan projects.
Episcopal Young Churchmen
Seventh through twelve graders in EYC meet Sunday evenings for a good time and fellowship, as well for special projects.
Lay Eucharistic Ministry To The Homebound
Parishioners are specially trained to bring communion directly from the Sunday altar to members unable to attend due to age or infirmity.
New Member Ministry
New and potentially new members, as well as those just visiting, are greeted and welcomed to Calvary.
New Parent Ministry
Parishioners active in this ministry present expectant parents with a book on Christian parenting. The hope is that babies will be brought to baptism. An easel display announces the new baby to the congregation, and a travel stork appears in the yard of the new parents.
St. Elizabeth Guild
A group of women meet the third Thursday of the month for coffee, fellowship and Bible Study.
St. Mary's Altar Guild
Members serve the Lord through regular, dedicated care of Calvary's altars. They set up for each church service, polish brass, care for linens, sacred vessels and vestments.
Unity Square
This low income housing project would not exist today if not for Calvary's leadership and support.
